Adirondack Makeover

Yesterday I made a pair of Adirondack chairs using pieces of wood I got by taking apart an old bookcase and some others that were left over from another project. It's not fine furniture but I love making these chairs, especially when I can re purpose materials I always feel like a pioneer when I can re- use wood and make something out of it.  The chairs sit next to the fire pit in the backyard yard, waiting for the good weather and our first party of the season.
My apologies for the bad image, too much glare.

Spring sale

Yesterday was a beautiful day for doing a little cleaning and organizing of the studio.  I opened up the doors and placed a few tables I had made out into the driveway.  Well what do you know?  Five minutes later I sold a pair of shaker style end tables.  The tops are from a couple of TV dinner tables, I painted them blue and attached them to a pine base.  The two little tables are going into an early childhood education center in Framingham, MA.
Awesome'
I think I'll put all of my work out in the driveway from now on.

Slowly but surely

I spent most of the weekend organizing my studio space at home and what a great weekend to do it, it was beautiful out.  The new space is smaller so I need to be very organized and find a place for everything.  I like how it's working out.

'Branching out' Annual wood show

Here's a few images of the gallery show at the Lexington woodworkers guild annual wood show.  It was a great event.

First Place

Normally my trestle table is too large to show at most exhibitions but it was accepted into the Lexington Guild of Woodworker's annual gallery show.  This is the first time I've exhibited this piece.  I've been hauling this piece around for quite a while so it's nice to be able to take it out of storage and display it.  I gave the table a fresh coat of wax to spruce it up and that was it'
The table was very well received, I won first prize in the furniture division, Woodcraft of Woburn, MA sponsored the event.  I received a blue ribbon and a gift certificate from Woodcraft.  Awesome'

Kristina Madsen

Yesterday I attended the Lexington Woodworkers Guild's annual gallery wood show " Branching out" I had a piece in the show.  Furniture maker Kristina Madsen was the guest presenter.  She talked about her work, especially her carving styles, her life in the South Pacific and her mentor.  Kristina is well known for her fantastic textures.   It was a great presentation.

Lexington Arts and crafts

Today I delivered my trestle table and chair to the gallery at the Lexington Arts and Crafts Society in Lexington, MA.  They provided me with a great window space to display the table, it looks awesome.  The opening is at 3 o:clock this coming Sunday.  If you're in that neck of the woods come by and see some awesome woodwork

Sprucing up'

I spent today giving the trestle table parts a fresh coat of wax in preparation for the Lexington Arts and Crafts guild annual woodworking gallery show. The top is rather large and gave me quite a workout waxing and buffing it out.  I forgot how nice the grain of the Africa mahogany is.

Sketchbook Project

I'm involved in an exhibition at the Brooklyn Art Library called The Sketchbook Project.  Today I picked up my book from the printer.
I have a passion for Adirondack chairs and I've taken all kinds of photographs of them throughout my neighbourhood.  I used these images to create my sketchbook project.  I wrote an essay on the Adirondack chair and included it in the book.  No matter if they're on a balcony, deck, poolside, in a large yard or beside a dumpster, the Adirondack chair helps us create our own oasis.  I'm very excited, I love how it turned out.  The book will be bar coded and put into the permanent collection of the library.

Funky stuff Worcester

My bread side tables found another home.  Yesterday I delivered a couple of my funky bread side tables to a gallery/store in Worcester called 'Funky Stuff''.
The two young proprietors Adrian and Kai are awesome, they are working very hard to make art accessible to all by keeping their prices low yet giving the artist what they need to earn as artist.
Thanks guys, your funky store and my funky bread side tables are a perfect match.
When in Worcester make sure to drop by funky stuff at 113 Lovell St.  Check them out at http://www.funkystuffworcester.com/
